Move the database to a directory in the /home partition and then create a symbolic link in the old var partition.

The thing is that I am so smart (note sarcasm!) that I didn't change the partitions on the database server so now the /home directory has a huge partition that I'm not using and the /var partition that holds the database is tiny. Is there an easy way I can change the partitions without losing the data and as little down time for the database as possible?
