[EnGarde] FTP Setup

Hello,

I am pretty new to the Linux community and am having some troubles setting up the ftp server on my Engarde box. I have read the documentation and did everything as I thought it was to be done but I ended up with this:

I can log into the ftp server fine
I can browse through directories fine
I cannot upload or download anything, I am given an "Unknown Command 500" error This problem is not ftp client specific, it happens on many that I have tried

What am I missing here? Any help would be appreciated!
