I would also be sure to double check the hosts.allow file for your current IP which you are connecting from. You may also be able to simply issue a /etc/init.d/./network restart to avoid rebooting. You will loose your connection, however you should be able to reconnect with the new IP within a minute or less.

Hi,
I need to change the IP configuration on my remote EnGarde box. I've never
done it before and I'm afraid that I'll lose access to it if something goes
wrong. The network and the gateway address have to change as well. Is
editing /etc/network/interfaces and rebooting the box all that has to be
done? I'd really appreciate some quick help.. I need to do this by the end
of the day today, since the co-location admin will disable the old route by
tonight.
