htaccess advices for site owners/builders

Postby juto on Sat Feb 13, 2010 9:57 am

After browsing this site and a few others not finding what I need, I suggest this:

1) A comprehensive guide to htaccess

2) A way of getting comments and suggestions on a clients htaccess

Background:
I own two sites built on OScommerce, one is heavily modified (nearly 500hours invested in development, demo: www.ji-fashion.com).

A lot of code is rewritten, new code has been added ... aiming at full w3c validation (frontend & backend), removal of bugs and focus on security etc.

My main htaccess file is around 25KB. Some of its statements may be redundant, others may not be needed and yet others should be included.

OScommerce is popular amongst hackers, spammers, code scrapers and the like "just for the fun of it".
Its constantly under discussion in OScommerce's forums, people literaly crying for help when their shops been sabotaged.

It would be very nice if this forum could have a thread "htaccess advice for e-commerce site builders"

If anyone feel for taking a look at my htaccess, please contact me.
I didn't post it here, it wouldn't be appropriate.

Kind Regards from Sweden

Hi Sara,

I am surprised you cannot find your answer on the osCommerce Community Support Forums? It has over a 1000 results in there forum for htaccess.

Your site is showing an internal server error at the moment.

It would be very nice if this forum could have a thread "htaccess advice for e-commerce site builders"
Done.

Are you not able to get the person who has already made the site changes to check the htaccess over?

If not PM me and I shall have a quick look.

Cheers

Hello scrumpy, did you get the pm?

My site has been up and running for quite some time now.

So, I wonder if you had the time to look at my htaccess?

Kind regards

Thank you for your time and reply. I will take your advice "ad notam" :)

I beleive my htaccess and your advice boil down to two "ultimate" htaccess's:

1) One for those who are on a shared server, like me
2) On for those who is not (either own it or using a VPS)?

where 1) contains parts of 2) and 2) have more settings which cannot be altered by 1)

Thank you again for your reply

Kind regards
