Prevent deep linking

Postby philip ching on Sat Dec 13, 2008 1:03 pm

Hi all,

I am running a (free) experimental website. Each time I want people to go to my home page instead of directly jump to a middle page (that is deep linking). I am wondering if there is a specific way to prevent deep linking.

In particular if Engarde Community has some kind of capability (i.e., software or setup) to prevent that?

Thanks for your advice!

hi

I did a quick search and came up with this doc about deep linking.

http://www.useit.com/alertbox/20020303.html

It looks like you can prevent search engines from deep linking your pages.
However if you want to prevent all users from deep linking you will need to do some
special server side coding on your pages. Which that article does not recommend because
your page need to be programming in such a way that it will not block users from accessing
the pages.

If you find any software that can do this please let me know. Thank you

Bests,

Hi Bill,

Thanks for your response and the link you provided.

After reading the link, I have a second thought about "deep linking".

"Deep linking" is good for the user just that I want them to read some page.
